Shia Muslim Council of Australia
The Shia Muslim Council of Australia (SMCA) established the Legal Committee to provide professional guidance, representation, and advocacy on matters affecting the Shia Muslim community across Australia. The committee is made up of qualified legal professionals and community representatives who specialise in diverse areas of law, including family, immigration, employment, discrimination, contracts, property, and not-for-profit governance. Their role is to ensure that SMCA and its member organisations operate within Australian legal frameworks while protecting the community’s rights, values, and interests. The Legal Committee works to: Advise SMCA’s leadership and members on legal obligations and compliance. Assist with the preparation and review of contracts, constitutions, and policies. Support community members in understanding their rights under Australian law.
Engage with government and regulatory bodies to address issues impacting the Shia Muslim community. Promote awareness of legal processes through workshops, seminars, and public resources. By combining professional expertise with cultural understanding, the Legal Committee helps bridge the gap between the Shia Muslim community and Australia’s legal system, ensuring fair representation and a voice in policy discussions.
